Benona Shores Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Shelby, Michigan.
The Benona Shores golf course first opened for play in 1974. The course was designed by Warner Bowen.
This executive course was built on rolling terrain and was cut out of thick wooded areas. The back nine was carved out of a fruit orchard. Even though the greens are fast and large, they are relatively flat, so if you get the speeds down you shouldn't have any problems putting well. Water comes into play on a couple of holes on the back nine.
Par for the course is 60. From the back tees, the course plays to 4,338 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 3,475 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-4 that plays to 400 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 109 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 17, a 393-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 2, a 109 yard par-3.

What a wonderful surprise to finally play this "Executive Course" and to find Country Club conditions from tee to green. This is not your normal "Par 3" layout as they have twelve (12) Par 3's BUT, six (6) of them are 200+ yards. Having the mix of a narrow rolling wooded layout for the Front 9 (2,060yd) and more open rolling (scattered trees) on the Back 9 (2,320yd) makes this a very challenging Par 30/30 layout. Having the three (3) tee selections Blue 4,380yd, White 4,045yd and Red 3,496yds you can accommodate all levels of players and challenges. Just because its a short Par 4 (7 Par 4's) doesn't mean you have to hit driver/wedge on them. I mixed it up with irons off the tee so I could hit longer irons into the large lush greens. The Front 9 / #1 a 386yd Par 4 starts out with a demanding uphill drive that needs to be 220 yds in order to view the green, down the other side. The #2 is a short and slightly uphill 128yd Par 3 with no real surprises. The #3 is a 151yd uphill with a dogleg right Par 3 and don't miss long or right. The #4 is a great 337yd treelined, downhill dogleg right, that will leave your 200yd tee shot at the 80yd marker. If course you need to hit that 50yd cut shot you've been practicing to stay between the trees. The #5 is a very narrow treelined uphill 211yd Par 3 that had our foursome hitting drivers and still 10yds short. Green has a steep front that rejects anything flying in short. The #7 is a downhill 347yd Par 4 with a row of trees on the lefthand side so favor the right. The #8 a 177yd and #9 at 183yd are both downhill Par 3's that add a challenge to finishing up the Front 9. The #10 is a very tough 215yd Par 3 with a green to match as being on the side of a hill with a short shot........stays short. This green is also a two tier with the back pin being one tough putt from the front. The #11 is straightaway 229yd Par 3 with OB woods all down the left side and a hillside on the right. The #12 is a 135yd Par 3 that has the blind green on top of a hill with short being better than long. The #13 is a great downhill 215yd Par 3 to a large soft green. The #14 their Hcp 2 at 400yds is the longest hole here with a generous fairway and green to receive that long approach iron. The #15 Par 3 plays its 210yd length downhill very friendly unless you find the trees on the right side. The #17 at 393yds is their Hcp 1 Par 4 because of the dogleg left (trees in corner) to a elevated green. Ending your round at #18 with a 190yd Par 3 puts this "Executive Course" in perspective as being........One Enjoyable Round of Challenging Golf. I ended of shooting 32/35 w/33 putts on this great gem of a Par 3 course that now on my radar for future play.

This is only an executive course, very cheap, great condition, generally you can walk on almost anytime. A great course to take younger children under 15. Not much of a club house but right next door along the 16th hole there is a restaurant called the par five with average course type food after you are done. Generally all the holes are par 3 or 4. Short course.

Back in the area for a Family vacation and brought all the boys (7) and granddaughter Madison for a two (2) team scramble on this Great Conditioned course. First time for everyone playing here and they raved about it all day. Even though it's a Par 30/30 and plays 4,380 yards both Teams ended up shooting -4 as approach shots were challenged as well as the pin placements. Conditions here would rival any Public golf course around and most Country Clubs I've played. This is a must play course if you're in the area and warming up for those longer yardage tracks in the area.
